Sweethearts

 A rare nap...

My favorite time of day is letting the two kids play together in Sarah's room.  Jeremiah mothers her baby dolls and she loves to pull his hair and watch his antics.  I put them both in the crib and they put on a little show.

Oh, no I di-n't

But I did.  I took a picture of my grocery store deals.  Next thing you know I'll be ironing a teddy bear applique circa 1989 onto a white sweatshirt and bringing out the jingle bell necklace.  (Anyone?  That was the cool thing to wear in 5th grade).

I am a little pumped with my deals.  They are:

2 boxes of Barilla Whole Wheat pasta, BOGO .64 cents each minus a $1 off two = .14 cents each
2 boxes of General Mills Cereal, BOGO, 1.99 each minus a $1 off two = 1.50 each
5 packages of Kraft cheese (block or shredded) on sale for $2 each minus $5 off five items plus a .75 cents off three items Target coupon= 4.25 for 5 or .85 cents each
Nature's Own 12 Grain Bread BOGO for 1.57 minus .75 cents off coupon= .82 cents
Wheat Thins for 2.50 minus $1 off= $1.50
Marie's Cole Slaw Dressing (a secret for making really good slaw), $2 minus $1 coupon= $1
Savings in Coupons: $10.50
Publix Sale Price Savings: $15.13
Grand Total Out of Pocket: $11.65 spent on 12 items

I saved more than I spent. Woot!  Now I will get the rest of my week's groceries from Kroger and hope to come in at $50 or under.  We'll see.

I printed most of the coupons off coupons.com and read up on the specials via the Coupon Savings Game for this week's Publix deals.  Publix will accept a competitor's coupon within 5 miles of the store, so I was able to use the Target coupon with another manufacturer's coupon.

Okay, here's the obnoxious picture.  I was thinking I should ask my sis to bring down her sewing machine over Christmas and give me a tutorial.  Help.  I'm becoming precious.

It's Not You, It's Me

I pulled down my facebook profile last Thursday.  I'm not sure the etiquette regarding this, so I didn't make a big deal of time by informing anyone.  I did it just to pull away.  I like facebook, nothing inherently bad in it; I just felt a personal conviction to pull away from it for a time.  I've thought about doing it several times, but just did it.  I am doing a bible study by Beth Moore called "Breaking Free" and the first several lessons review how the kings of Isaiah's time lost God's blessing because they continued to allow sacrifice to be given to other gods on the "high places".

Please don't think I'm being falsely spiritual or preachy.  For me, my 'profile' is a high place that needs to be brought down.   When it's not, then maybe it can go back up.  Believe me, I miss reading about what others are doing.  But I don't think it is healthy for ME, no judgment on anyone else. I think a false picture of reality is presented on such sites.  None of us are always smiling, happy, LOLing, etc.

And yes, this blog is self-serving.   But if you are reading it, you chose to and you are probably family.  And you'd miss my unique viewpoint on life, right?

Please don't consider my absence a rejection.  Like it said, it's me.

Sending you a transcendental BFF necklace and lots of hugs,

Melissa

Waterloo

Couldn't escape if I wanted to... Waterloo... Finally facing my Waterloo.

My waterloo is 8 p.m.  My 28 month old, my precious firstborn son, will NOT stay in his bed.  Will not stay in his room.  Cries when you walk about from the bed.  Howls when the door is closed.  Howls when the door is open.  Howls when the gate is up.

This has been going on for about 2 weeks.  After he locked himself in the house and me out last Monday, he has completely regressed.  When he started sleeping in his bed at 20 months, it was a breeze.

Unless you sit beside him until he if fully asleep, he will pop up and howl.  My frustration is that "tough love" is not working.  The kid will howl for 45 minutes if left unattended.  It's also challenging because he wakes up baby sister.

We had several rounds at bedtime last night, one 3 a.m. round, and he just walked into our room at 5 a.m.  I hesitate to lock him in for the outside because of the being-locked-in-the-house-trauma.

My plan is to do the "cry it out" for intervals of 5, 10, 15 minutes at naptime.  If you read this blog, would you pray for us this week anytime we cross your mind?

The rubber is meeting the road and we could use prayers for peace of mind, health, endurance, good humor, and strength.

Okay, that's enough serious stuff.

Before I sign off, did anyone see a clip for "Sister Wives" on TLC?  I saw it Sunday a.m. (playing hooky from church because I was sick and it was a chance to have 2 hours alone-- keepin' it real).  It will follow a real polygamist family with Dad Kody and his three, soon to be four wives.  I am outraged.  I know there is a fictional show about polygamy on HBO, but this is too much.  It is illegal and degrades those women, children, and the family unit.  I have written a complaint to TLC via email and encourage you to do the same if it disturbs you as well.

Well, that was sorta serious, too.

Um, I just burned my bagel because I was writing this post.  And Sarah likes to spit out her jar food.  It's her game.  Mama doesn't find it quite so charming these days.

(Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, Waterloo, finally facin' my waterloo...)

Workin' It

Well, I went for the gusto today.  I hit Publix for cereal, BOGO Beech Nut baby food, and Barilla Pasta Sauce.  I had two 75 cent coupons for the sauce (1.35- .75= .60 each) and $1 off 8 jars of baby food.  The baby food rang up at .28 cents each and with the coupon, I got them for about .16 cents each!  I didn't have a coupon for the BOGO Special K, but got it for $2/each.

At Kroger, I was able to use my two Libby's canned veg. coupons (Buy 3 for .50) and each can was .50. The coupons were doubled, so I bought six cans and got them for about .17 cents each!  I was able to use some Kroger coupons we had been mailed on hot dogs, deli meat, and formula.  I also stocked up on chicken breasts at 1.99/pound.  I did all my grocerying, including baby food and formula, for  $53.93!    And I bought real food.  Produce, bread, fresh meat, frozen vegetables, cheese, milk. And it wasn't that hard!

I still have a LOT to learn about wise stewardship, but I wanted to share, blogfriends.

Have a wonderful Sunday!

If I'm Lyin', I'm Cryin'

Watching Cars again this morning, I had an insight.  Not only do I have Scripture, I have a infinite source of life wisdom at my fingertips in Tow Mater (Larry the Cable Guy).

This might not be the best time to mention it, but you owe me $32,000 in legal fees.

Yeah, I know your name.  Is your name 'Mater too?

I used to bump into this gal jus' so I could speak to her. (Lightin' McQueen: What??)  I don't know.

I'm not one to brag or nothin', but you shoulda heard me on 'Giddy Up Oom Poppa Mow Mow'.

Just a few pearls for you.

Free Marital Counseling

Watch the 2 minute clip below and see if 99 percent of your mundane gripes about your spouse aren't answered. This TV special was on one night when Alex and I were grumpy with each other. Dr. Sinbad nails it on the head. From clothes on the floor to romance, you can tell he's been there and back. Seriously, rent this from Netflix. It's awesome!
